About Book Of Days

You are invited to spend the year with me as I develop my journal art practice. Book Of Days is a personal pilgrimage that I’ve undertaken to create something in my journal Monday – Friday every week. On Mondays, I release a video recording of the creation of a full page spread. On Fridays I release a video spanning Tuesday-Friday’s work in my journal. Those who opt into the premium program get an additional video spanning at least 1 hours length along with my writing and personal musings in a secure, private platform every Wednesday.

Here’s a Sample of what we lovingly call a “Full Spread” in BOD.

Please note: This is a time lapsed version of what the members in the BASIC (free) version get every Monday. Most Basic BOD videos are between approx 20 – 30 minutes long and include captions and instruction.

Typical BOD video for a Monday full-spread. Actual time for Basic BOD members: 18 mins.

This is a sample of what is provided in the PREMIUM programme. The BOD-P (or BOD PREMIUM) videos are at least 1 hour long and include instructions, supplies lists, printable PDFs with prompts, resources, and even music play lists, and a private platform in which members may respond to the material.

BASIC PROGRAMME:

How Does It Work?

You either subscribe to this site by email, use an rss reader, or bookmark the site and visit when the spirit moves you.

I post on Monday and Friday every week. These posts will contain my musings on the subject of journal art and memory keeping. Along with my musings, you get videos I produce that feature ways to create a sustainable art practice and journal art tips and tricks. Every newsletter sent out contains links to resources that inspire me and are bound to inspire you too!

You can also join our closed Facebook Group should you wish to share what you create in response, but this is totally optional. We currently enjoy a very active membership of over 500+ souls (all but one of whom are women) in the Facebook Group alone. There is also the Flickr, which is a lot quieter, with 250+ members who are posting their BOD work.

How Much Does It Cost?

Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zero. But there will be a tip jar should you feel generous.

SOME Q&A’s ABOUT BOTH PROGRAMMES

How Long Do I Have To Stay?

As long as you want and no longer.

What Is A Book Of Days?

A Book of Days is my name for a daily encounter with myself on paper. The label makes me think of Victorian diaries in which gentlemen and ladies recorded each day’s highlights. Who came for dinner? What was served? What was the weather like? While I will probably not focus on externals, I will be recording my own internal weather, what fed my soul, poetry (or small stones) I write, questions I’m asking myself, who inspired me… This process developed while I was recovering from a bad emotional blow. It was very much inspired by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer‘s e-course 30 Days In Your Journal and Donna Downey‘s Inspiration Wednesdays. From Julie, I picked up the habit of recording more than one day’s memories on one spread. From Donna, I picked up the desire to do at least one intricate spread per week in  my art journal.

What Can I Expect?

Every Monday I will sit down to tackle a full spread all in one go, record it and send you the video with my thoughts at some point during the day.  These spreads will handle weighty content: my intentions for the week or something I’m struggling with, for example. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I will record the work I do in my Book of Days, making little notes throughout the week on one (or two) spread(s). These mini-dates with myself will be captured on video and then edited down and, in some cases, time lapsed so that you can see how the week’s spread evolved. The video will be send out to you by sometime around 4 p.m. EST each Friday. I will be taking Saturday off so I can have a break from navel gazing, and I will be taking Sunday off so I can keep my commitment to stream live at 1 p.m. EST.

Each video release will come with my own musings about the process, new techniques I learned, artists I came across, thoughts or feelings I’m having… Some weeks will contain more than two video entries. Others may only have one, especially during the weeks where I am teaching other classes. (For Example, I’m in Lifebook in June and August of 2012. During those periods, I may be stressed to get more than one email out to you.) At the most, you can expect three e-mails per week, two of which will have links to videos I’ve produced for you.

Sometimes, Things Will Get Heavy

This will be a very intimate offering, which is why I’m formatting it this way. Instead of hanging my guts out for an anonymous audience, I’m hanging my guts out for people I can at least contact by e-mail. :) I am a survivour and sometimes I talk/art very frankly around those issues. If you are easily triggered by this kind of content, this programme is probably not for you.

DISCLAIMER

I’m not a counsellor, and though I took life coach training, I do not wish to be a life coach. I have also never had any art training beyond the on line classes a lot of us have taken. I am not an expert in *anything* except my own process.

You can think of me as your friend who sits down with you, arts with you, talks with you, and offers you encouragement and inspiration when you need it, and nothing more.
